Welcome to Little Sister Cookie

Welcome! My name is Savannah, and I bake cookies from my home in Michigan.

I've had a passion for baking, and for artwork my whole life, but it wasn't until after the birth of my son that those two really combined. I did not handle the transition into motherhood very smoothly. I had a less than desirable birth experience, plus some pre-existing anxiety issues that when combined became a perfect storm for PPD. My partner, and children's father, bought me my first Kitchen Aid stand mixer for our first Christmas together (2016) with our two month old baby.

Here I am with my first Kitchenaid!

For a while, all I did was stare at the thing. He knew I loved to bake, but it had been a while since I'd made anything. I think it sat in it's box in the corner of our dining room for 2 months before I unpacked it.

But, in the meantime, I was doing research. I spent most nights snoozing in the living room with my baby. We would cuddle, nurse, and watch TV.

Me and my baby, when he was a baby.

In those late nights, I swam through the depths of YouTube and watched all I could to figure out what I wanted to make with this fancy, brand new, turquoise mixer. I started with caramels and curds and cakes. It was a very delicious time.

An overly luscious chocolate, caramel, pecan cake I made.

So for a little while, I made cake. We all gained a few pounds, and while I was having fun, it just didn't give me the artistic outlet that I craved.

Let's go back a few years, before I was pregnant. I used to crochet. Like, expert level crochet. I made tunics, and scarves, and blankets of course. While I was pregnant, my body became so swollen, that my right wrist was near un-usable. This never truly went away, so the twisting and turning motions required for crochet are no longer possible for my wrist. In all honesty, my wrist had some problems before pregnancy (but were greatly exacerbated by it), and I knew the day would come when I would have to quit.

Some of my more advanced pieces.

Soon, in my hunt for fabulous bakes, I found fancy sugar cookies. With this discovery I learned of royal icing, which I had never used before. Growing up, we always used a simple glaze and just hoped it didn't run off the edge of the cookie, haha! Soon I found the thousands of cookier accounts on instagram and became obsessed.

I'd like to say I started slowly, as one should, but in hindsight, I just dove in. Here's some of my earlier sets - we all start somewhere! Don't be discouraged if your cookies don't look like the professional's do. We all strive for perfection and the only way to get there is through practice!

Now, I'm completely committed to cookies and cookie cutters! Here's some of my very own designs.

After selling cookies for a few years, I dipped my toe into the world of cookie cutter design. It was a blast. For 2 years we ran a very successful cookie cutter shop, and watched other people use our shapes to make their own edible masterpieces. It was incredibly fulfilling, and rewarding. But one day- it wasn't. Before I completely burned out on cookies, we decided to close the shop and take a break. We still sell our STL files, and we may sell physical cutters again in the future.

As for right now, I'm focusing on teaching classes, online and in person. I truly THRIVE when I am teaching. I love sharing the little tips and tricks I've learned along the way, and watching my students grow.

Feel free to follow along, check out the rest of my blog where you can find free tutorials. I also have listed some online classes, and other cookie resources like transfer sheets, tags, and more.

Thanks for talking cookies with me!

-Savannah
